My Bushhawk came in and I am unsure that I trust the clamp on it with my plates and feet from Wimberly. The fit just doesn't seem right.

I'm thinking about getting the Wimberly C-30.

Those of you who use the Bushhawk have any suggestions?

I'll be using the 200-400 primarily, but might get brave and put the 600 on it too.

JIm if you get the 600 on the Bushhawk I want to take a picture !!!!!!

Not sure what you mean regarding the feet?

I have wimberly replacement lens feet on all my lenses (or plates). I'm not confident that the clamp that came with the BH fits well enough.

We'll be sure to take a pic of the 600 on it when I come down next month. Might have to use a high shutter speed though. Don't know how long I could hold it :D

Do you mean the low profile feet with built in plate? Those are fine I'm concern with the ball head and its attachment Which ball head? Which attachment?

The one I'm familiar with is the RRS which comes with a very good and secure plate !!!

Yes those feet. There is no ball head on the bushhawk, but the ball head I have for other use is the BH-55.

Jim,

I have an RRS clamp on mine, but a Wimberley or Kirk will work fine. You may have to use a 1/4" insert bushing if your clamp has the 3/8" threaded hole.

Yeah, I called wimberly and they said the C-10 (I have one) will work just fine, but that if I "really want" to spend the extra for a c-30, they'd be glad to help :D

I'm really curious to hear how well the Bushhawk works with the 600. I've been handholding mine and after about an hour feel like my arms are made out of rubber. Someone suggested using a Bushhawk, but I'm worried it will be top heavy and too awkward to use.

I haven't had the 600 on it yet, but it does well with the 200-400. It took me a bit of getting used to and I really didn't like the feel of it at first. Once I got everything adjusted and used it for an hour or so, it felt better. If I have some time today or tomorrow, I'll hook it up to the 600 for a bit and see what I think.

As an update on the clamp, the one that came with it does just fine. It just feels different than what I was used to so I didn't trust it at first.

I have used my Bushhawk with the 400mm 2.8 which is just a little bit lighter than the 600 and it seams to work fine.
I am still getting use to the hair trigger though
