The Lemaire in Antarctica is considered "Kodak alley" for obvious reasons if you have been there. Often you transit the channel in low cloud and snow, and you hardly know the landscape is there, and if that's your only chance then so be it. I am fortunate to be there several times every year, and occasionally you get light like this!

To process this image I adjusted the exposure of the RAW image to create three- under, middle, and over exposed and then used Photomatix to perform exposure blending. I warmed the colours a little. Crop and sharpen.

Comments welcome of course!

Thanks Kobus. You know when I saw the post, that's exactly what I was going to do. So here's a more contrasty version.

Very nice work John. I like the image with more contrast as well. Do you find Photomatix easy to work with? It is not that expensive is it?

Hi John, Just a great scene! My choice is somewhere in between the 2 reposts. IMO you've balanced the comp very well. Small berg anchoring the left with the ice cutout used as a foreground. The late light is magical along with the beautiful reflected water. The icing on the cake is the dramatic sky and the distant mountains. Beautiful!!

John, this is an exceptional image. I love the composition, and the quality of the light is like something from the Renaissance masters.

I was actually favoring the original post with subdued contrast, but then experimented with something like your repost but with the adjustments made selectively on several adjustment layers. My jury of one is still out on this ...

What a site that must have been. I like the re-post and this one is worth the extra work - it is excellent

Wow -- what a great shot. Love the lighting and mood of this one. I also like how the various chunks of ice lead your eye to the sunset.

John, This is a great scene...I really like the juxtaposition of the Ice bergs and the warm light.
My vote is with David's re-post as it brings out a little more detail in the front left Berg.
Overall well handled...

From a personal taste recommendation...I would crop a bit from the top of the sky to strengthen the composition.

Hey John,
Very nicely composed. I like the idea of lightening the begs in the FG a touch and adding the contrast......anyway you decide......very nicely done!

Thanks Roman. I appreciate your comments. I'm going to play with the image a bit and take your suggestion.
