I have both the orange-variants, and regular House Finches coming to my feeders, but the regular ones don't seem to like to pose as much. I know this image is not for everyone, some won't like the needles on the right and in front of the feet, but for me they add to the picture and give a sense of habitat.

This was a set-up over sunflower seeds.

97% of Full Frame. Levels, curves, and hue/sat adjustments.

Great shot, everything looks perfect, there's lots of detail on the perch but the bird stands out very well.

Aidan, this is very pleasing. The pine cones are a nice element and the bird looks good against the green BG. I love the house finches. I didn't know there was an orange variant.

Looks like you're taking a page out of Alan Murphy's playbook Aidan. Nicely executed shot. Looks like you did some good in-camera composition if this is close to 100% of full frame.

Aidan, the needles dont bother me. Nice pose and BG. the pine-cones are adding a lot IMO. Thx for sharing.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Doug is right, the pine cone idea did come from Alan Murphy ;)

Aidan, since the needles all are aligned with the bird's back I think they add to the composition, not detract!

TFS a lovely little bird.
