Hi Ken, would like to see a vertical crop on this one, as I feel the pose/stance would lend itself better. BTW is this a big crop, as I think at f/7.1 there should be more detail?

Steve,

I thought this was vertical, the crop is about 50%.
There is a lot more detail in my TIFF, I blurred the BG.

I would say slightly off square.:D At 50% that is quite a reduction, but perhaps in 'blurring' the BG you might have lost detail in the actual subject? Agreed, the detail in the 16bit Tiff will have more detail, but the JPEG isn't far off, and, as you know a friend of ours is now shooting all in JPEG rather than RAW!!! Might take another look again Ken, but do another pass on the animal only, but be careful of the amount, as it might look 'over cooked'.

I blurred using a layer and erased the subject, I'll have another go.
Shooting in JPEG is OK for the Daily Mail:p

Hey dont knock the Dail Mail. They liked my crocodile images (from RAW !!)

To solve the vertical debate I would suggest that some from the RHS is removed as the right hand half doesn't add much to the overall image in my opinion. Great eye contact and stance.

Did you make a noise Ken to attract such attention?

Love the pose, he/she is so cute and the DOF is perfect, I think which ever way you decide to crop the image will work.

The reference to the Daily Mail is a "private" joke between Steve and I.
I did not make a noise to attract the attention of the mongoose, it just happened to look our way.
