Last night's lunar eclipse at near totality. Photographed from my driveway with the Canon 600mm f/4 L IS lens, the 2X II TC, and the EOS-1D MIII. ISO 1600. Evaluative metering -1/3 stop: 2.5 sec. at f/8. Mirror lock and 2-second self timer. This is probaly the only sharp image I have ever made using mirror lock-up with a long exposure and a long effective focal length.

Don't be shy; all comments welcome. Later and love, artie

A whole heck of a lot better than I did. I couldn't get a sharp image due to wind and poor tripod to save my life. A nice image. i like the red to white especially. All red is nice but the transition stage is a nice subject as well.

I have photos of the dark side, do you ?

Actually I went out and shot a few frames. Not as crisp, but I got a couple between cloud breaks that were captured with some nice red hues.

Artie,
Any particular reason why you used the 1D instead of the new 1Ds (for the extra ability to crop)?

Glad you got it. All clouds here. Bummer. Nice job.

As far as I could figure, this was close to totality. After that, we got clouded out... And yes, if they are not sharp they go in the can...

You did well, my setup was the same, but used a 1Ds3. My full eclipse shots are soft. Thanks to Phil Colla's suggestion, this will be fixed. ;)

So the "uber kamera" isn't all it's cracked up to be? That's disappointing. :(
