After yesterdays morning outing I decided to see the remaining capacity of my battery on the 7D. I was totally amazed.

thats nuts, were you using an IS lens?

The battery was fully charged when you started? Since you are in Florida, I guess low temperature is not an issue. How many image can you usually make with the 7D? The Mark IV drains batteries noticeably faster, too, probably because of the two Digic IV processors but fortunately the capacity of the battery is higher.

Hi, I was using a canon 400mm f/5.6L non IS for probably most of the images along with my 500 f//4L with IS off. The battery was fully charged when I started and it took I believe four days to get this count. I ususlly get around 1200- 1400 on a charge with the 7D. The WX has been cool here lately but warm mostly also. I couldnt believe it but as now from what has been asked, it probably was because of NON IS lenses used to account for this. I don't use live view at all, only rarely. The last day I took just under 900 images in an hour and half as birds were flying everywhere.

Were you shooting RAW? Also the lower the ISO the pictures will be smaller in size than higher ISO pics. Regardless that is still a lot.

I was shooting raw, no flash used and ISO started at 2600 and went down, 2000, 1600, 1250 etc down to finally 400 thru the morning as I got more light. I left around 9:10 am from arriving at 7:10 am or so.

I thought you were disappointed that the battery didn't last long enough. :)

Yeh, it's a shame they don't make things last longer than that any more. :) I wonder if I could have taken another 100 on that remaining 10%?

Theoretically, you might have gotten another 200 frames.

7D has dual Digitc IV as well, the electronics of the camera consumes very little power it is mostly the LCD, the mirror (especially at 8-10 fps) and IS that drains the power. Normally I get about 1500 shots with IS and average LCD use.

Actually, I have three batteries for my 5D II but only two batteries for my 7D. I have noticed that one of the batteries for the 7D will take more images than the other. This one must have been the better one. :)
