Great behavior. I like the calm background and the form of the perch.
It looks a tiny bit soft on my monitor. Maybe a tiny bit of more sharpening. But otherwise a fantastic shot.

Nice detail and composition here Allen. What setting did you use for the flash?

Hi Allen, nice behavioral shot of these hoverflies. Ditto on the soft look. I also think the colors look a little pale. It would have been nice to see the leaf tip in the frame (if there was any), but I think this composition works equally well. Haven't seen much syrphid images here, nice!

Nice catch!

I agree with what's already been said. I brightened up the bugs a bit with shadows/highlights, increased the contrast and sharpened it a bit more and it looks good on this end. I also cloned out a few white spots here and there.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Julie, my flash was just in auto mode...mastering advanced flash techniques is on my To Do list... Ken, I'd be interested in seeing your reworked image.

Here you go.
I just noticed a few sensor or lens dust spots in the upper right that should be cloned out too.

Excellent repost, Ken! It did look a little soft in the original. Very nice image, Allen. I love the position of the flies (you know what I mean! Get your minds out of the gutter!) and the perch works for me. My only question is...now that you've posted this, what are you going to share on Valentine's Day? :D;):D

Really nice. I liked the original and the repost is even better. I admire those of you who have the patience and skill to photograph bugs!

Great shot Allen and even better with the rework. Well done on getting the angle right so that both flies are in perfect focus.:)
