Canon EOS 1D Mark IV, Canon EF 400mm F2.8 L IS USM, EF 2xII, ISO 3200, f8, 1/4000, full frame image. It is a big jump over my previous 1D Mark II interms of IQ. Processed with Lightroom 2.6. I just increased the exposure by +0.36. Rest all are the default settings of lightroom.

Look forward to your comments and critiques.

Cheers,
Sabyasachi

I'm happy with the image quality of the Mark IV, too. Good to hear that you like it. As long as the subject is fairly large in the frame, the noise level really is low. In this situation you probably could have gotten away with ISO 1600. The bird could go a bit lighter for my taste.

Axel,
Thanks for your comments. I agree that I could have used a lower ISO here. I recently got the Mark IV. I was testing the high ISOs so that I can know where to draw the line. I rarely used ISO 800 in my 1D II. So was wondering whether ISO 3200 can be used. Also, I rarely crop my images. So I need to know the exact impact of this high ISOs as per my shooting technique.

Cheers,

IQ @ 3200 looks very good indeed, especially on blacks which would be very noisy on older cameras.

Sabya, good work on the high ISO, and Im glad you are enjoying your new toy. Did you do no NR on the BG?

Stuart,
No extra noise reduction on the Background. I went ahead with the normal lightroom processing which involves noise reduction (Luminance 0 and Colour 25) and default sharpening(Amount 25, Radius 1.0, Detail 25, Masking 0).

Noise looks well handled Saby, need to extract more detail in the blacks however.
