Taken a couple days ago. I added a bit of water under bird and then took a bit off top and left. 50D, 500mm at f/5.6, 1/1500, ISO 400, EC -1/2, flash and BB at -1. I also removed a shadow line across the coot's back from the flash. Dave

Beauty of a shot Dave, love the feather details and light.
The bird seems a bit low in the shot, wish there was a little more underneath and not so much above.

I've been meaning to work on my coots as well, notice a few getting posted lately :)

Very good exposure, eye contact and just loved the shallow DOF. My eyes dont move from the bird's eyes. the way it should be.
