One from Ridgefield NWR auto tour route. Not allowed out of the vehicle during the winter months so you have to take what you get from the car.
D300, 400 2.8, 1/200, f4, iso800, man exp, bean bag in window.
Thanks for looking, comments and critiques appreciated.

Nice pose Todd! Lovely soft light. I wonder if it's much of a crop as I am struggling to see finer detail in plumage. If it were mine I would clone the forward bent tip of the perch as theoretically that could "sit" behind the bird and not be seen anyway.
Thanks for sharing.

nice one Todd...I agree with Akos and would sharpen the bird a tad more to try and enhance finer detail. It also looks a bit underexposed but I am not viewing on the best monitor currently so take it with a pinch of salt.

Thanks for the comments guys, I opened up the shadows and sharpened a bit more. See what you think. Light was from the wrong side:( but as mentioned cant get out of vehicle.

Todd, your repost looks better, and I like the open beak.

Nice eye contact and open beak here, I like the repost and would like to add more contrast to it. I actually like the broken pin it gives the photo more of a character.

Nice pose. Repost is a great improvement and gets some good detail in the blacks - difficult to do with RWBB's.

Nice repost. You can really see detail in the bird. LIke the open beak and the clean background as well.

For me exposure-wise I'd prefer something bewteen the two as the bird is no longer black enough in the repost. I'd also look at adding some saturation to the epaulette, and perhaps also warm up the image a bit. I would have liked to see a bit more of the perch too. As posted nice sharpness, and I like the calling pose. I don't mind the broken pin.

Agreed with Daniel's critique above. These birds are quite hard to expose properly...exp. without blowing the red channel. Good job done in camera and some tweeks in processing will make it shine. Loved the pose, the tail spread and the depth of field.
