The moon will appear red or a copper color from what I understand... Will be interesting if the weather cooperates here.

mostly clear skies and minus 14 C in Hamilton, ON... I'm very excited, as the last one in August was hazy and occured as the sun was rising!

Nice and clear and we can see it....but can't photograph it for spit!!! It's a deep red and you need to add a lot of light--light that I don't have to spare, at least!

Clear here in Minnesota but -10 F. Frozen fingers. Tough light conditions. Throw everything out written about photographing the moon when it is covered by the sun's shadow!

Can't believe with all the light pollution I pulled it off. No crop with the Mark3 and the Sigma 300-800 and the 2x tele for 1600mm. ISO 6400 at f11 for 0.4 sec. High ISO custom function on. Noise Ninja on Sky

Light pollution should have no effect on subjects like the Moon and planets except maybe Neptune and Pluto, (which I still consider a planet :) ) since they are bright enough and much nearer than galaxies, nebulae, clusters, etc...

Looks like you still got a little bit of shake in there. You could have got away with a lower ISO to stop some noise. It doesn't move that fast :) I have some from previous eclipses and some high magnification planetary stuff for a few seconds and all is good.

Cool, Roman, thanks for posting! I was all set, had a sunny day, about 2 hrs. before the eclipse was to begin, the clouds came in and rapidly covered the sky.....sigh....maybe next time....

Is it only my impression that the moon was quite dark during the complete eclipse? Maybe I'm completely wrong but I remember it being much brighter and more orange during the last eclipse a couple of years ago. Is my memory playing tricks on me?

I didn't see it last time Axel.... And didn't see MUCH this time. Only very brief openings in the cloud cover here in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">N</st1:City> <st1:State w:st="on">TX</st1:State></st1:place>. I'd never seen a red moon before... Pretty interesting...Very dark I agree... Didn't get any decent images. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

The brightness and color will vary from eclipse to eclipse depending on atmospheric conditions.

Canon 40D and EF70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM with dinky tripod perched on a '92 Plymouth. :)
Used MLU with the slower shutter speeds and remote release. Images shot at 300mm and settings ranged from 1/400s f/11.0 iso200 to 1/5s f/6.3 iso1600
Nautilus shape for fun... Obviously not the Moon's original path! :)
