Montague Island in Prince William Sound (recall the Exxon Valdez) has these beautiful snowy slopes. Hard to concentrate on counting birds among the gorgeous landscapes. Hard too to capture them, at least for me. Here's one attempt. Probably should have gone for a lower ISO but this is what I did.

I like how this is composed - the peaks forming a diagonal leading line into the image; leaving more room on the right in the direction of the blowing snow.

I agree on your ISO comment. At that focal length and distance from the peaks, f/11 would be OK with ISO at 400.

I tried something you might want to investigate. In PS I used selective color and removed cyan from the white, blue and cyan colors to get it more white.

lovely simplistic image with a strong composition. agree on the tech comments but pleasing nonetheless at this viewing size.

Hi Decian, Nicely composed with pleasing light. I like the color as is but would also like to see it whiter to compare the two. Agree that with this type of shot F/11 would have worked well with a lower iso...

I thought my foray into landscapes might have been greeted with a polite suggestion to stick to birds. Thanks for the favorable reception. Still I'll have to endeavor to think landscape when taking shots like these and pay more attention to settings even if he shot is an opportunistic capture.

Here's a repost with (hopefully) whiter whites.

Declan,
I also like the leading lines into this image...my monitor picks up a slight shift toward white...

You live in the land of some great landscapes...I would encourage you to keep them coming !

Hey Declan,
I too like the lines of this and the way the mountain fades into the whites. Both look good but the OP looks better on my monitor....as I like the depth of the greys! I'm not that hung up on the lower ISO.....but whenever possible, it is a good approach to take. You should definitely consider more of these livning in Alaska......adds a nice balance ot the birds.
