We don't have lions and tigers (do have bears!), but we do have bobcats and mountain lions. Still looking for a mountain lion but did get a great chance to photograph a bobcat at Lake Los Carneros in Santa Barbara County. These cats are capable of taking down an adult deer in a single pounce!

I had to shoot through some pretty dense grass, so I couldn't back up or get more habitat in the frame. Worked the image in CS4 after converting in LR2. Cropped a bit to eliminate some OOF grass.

50D, EF400mm f/5.6
Manual mode, f/5.6@1/500, ISO 400 WB 5100K
AI Servo autofocus, HH, no flash

Thanks for looking!

Killer eye contact and front paws make this for me , IMHO tight crop works very well here

Done very well Kerry. Love the eye contact. looks like it's had dinner recently, judging by the three feathers.:).

Great eye contact. A bit tight in the frame for me and I would go back on the sharpening a bit, especially on the head.
Good looking cat, Kerry, thanks for sharing him with us :)

Hi Kerry Agree on the advice of more room, they seem to look better !!! Like the pose and eye contact !!! Excellent image and good luck with the mountain lion !!
