Looking for a little advice.
Just pulled the trigger on the Nikon 300mm f/4 and Nikon 1.4x TC. I have been reading a few places that a replacement foot is recommended, which company would you go with Really Right Stuff or Kirk? My Gitzo 3530 and RRS BH-55 should be here with the lens on Friday!!! I really wanted the Nikon 200-400 but being new to the game with the legs and D300 this will have to be it for a while $$$.
Appreciate any input on lenses etc.
Thanks,
Gary

I can't speak for Kirk, but I've been happy with my RRS and Wimberly replacement feet.

I think either would be fine. I have mostly used RRS myself except for my 200-400vr and 600vr lenses. I used 4th Generation Designs feet for them.

RRS has a plate and a replacement foot/collar. Which would you recommend?
Thanks,

I really don't think you need to replace the collar....I think they work fine so save the $$$ and go with the foot! Unless you hear from someone else who says the collar makes a big difference.

The Nikon collar is not the smoothest. I would seriously consider the RRS replacement foot/collar.

I use Kirk and am very pleased with them and their service.

The collar on the 300 f4 is not one of Nikon's best designs. I went for the Kirk collar and I can vouch for the fact that it is much sturdier and very easy to rotate or remove for hand holding.
