Almost full frame using a 50D, 500mm f/4L, AV mode, 1/1600 @ f/8, ISO 320, spot metering. Photographed in my backyard bird garden this evening.

Nicely done. Exposure and detail look good. Fun to have these opportunities, I have been capturing both male and female in my back yard recently as well as northern flickers.

nice image one round of saturation may help a bit. Looks a little dull on my moniter,It would just put a little snap in the bottom feathers. Did you use a flash

No flash was used...and I agree it looks a bit flat. Added +2 of both the neutral and black in the selective color menu and +7 of contrast.
