I spent some time with this marvelous adult male Elephant Seal at Moltke Harbour, South Georgia last November. There were several full beachmaster males down on the shoreline with their harems of females and pups. This guy was up above the beach and did not appear to have a harem yet. He had lots of fresh cuts to the side of his neck from sparring with other males (note the red smudge on the trunk), and one day he may be lucky and have a harem of his own.
During our visit, the winds were coming up and down violently- one minute it was blowing 50 knots and the next it was calm. This image was taken when it was blowing and you can see the ice pellets picked up from the ground in the lower part of the image.
I cropped tight, increased contrast with Levels, and sharpened. Hope you like it!
