Just a fun shot last night setting up the D3S - shot in Raw, Straight conversion
No Sharpening, No Noise reduction - NO NOTHING.
Deliberately under exposed.

10,000 ISO
D3S
Nikon 24-70 F2.8
F10
1/60th

a little noise reduction and its pretty sweet - IMHO. In fact I think its better than 6400 out of the D3.

What say ye???

eish!!! (South African slang for- D@MN!!!)
and I was about to move over to the D300s...gotta save up some more dough...
impressive.

do you mind posting the image straight-out-of-camera with no NR applied?

Sure looks very good Lance, you are making me very jealous :D
If you can post an example of ISO12800 that would be great too. Couldn't wait to see you taken bird pictures with D3S as well.

Seconding Morkel's request, would you post the pre- noise reduction version? And maybe some 100% crops so we can compare? It is tough to see noise at this size sometimes. I do like the facial expression :-)

I must not have been clear.

THIS IS STRAIGHT OUT OF CAMERA - NO NOISE REDUCTION.

(I was saying if you were to add a little NR it would be sweet)

If you read Lance's post, he states clearly this shot is without NR. Even more impressive that it is underexposed.

He later suggests a little NR and it's ready to go.

OPPS, I see you've already responded, Lance.

sorry, my bad, my eye caught the 'a little noise reduction' :o

very impressive to say the least. is 108,000 any useful or just a gimmick? would also love to see the 12,800 examples and maybe a close-up snippet of this shot...?

100% crop - THis is at least 1 stop under exposed as well.
Dont have any 12,800 as yet - I am away from home - once I get back I will do some shots at all ISO'S and post so you can see.

Have not tried the 104,200 ISO as yet - I would expect it to be pretty noisey and a bit of a gimmick - I guess it depends on what you want to do with the resulting picture - probably not much good for enlarging and printing - but at that ISO you are going to shoot in near darkness - so guess if you wanted a record of something it might be useful.
The super sensitive movie mode could also be interesting.

Lance, by "under-exposed" do you mean you applied -1 EV (in AV auto mode) so that the statute would look closer to it is when seen with the naked eyes?

Impressive ISO 10,000 performance. Too bad I just got the D700, I guess I have to wait for the D4.:)
