These lovely birds unfortunately breed on beaches, resulting in their rather rapid decline in numbers, due to humans, buggies, dogs and foxes. A small colony last bred 90km north of Sydney 4 years ago, and this year are successful again, at the same place. The local council have erected a protective fence, and there are now eggs hatching, and chicks being raised. The DOF in this picture is disappointing in this image, but the head looks good - the light was not good enough for F8, unfortunately.

Great pose and you did well with the poor light we had. I have to learn from you to be less spoiled when it comes to light and shleping the camera from the car....;)

This is much better than I managed Nevil. Sharp where it counts. Agree with Ofer that you handled the light well.

Very nice BIF capture. I like the head detail and open beak. The info you provided about this birds' struggle for survival is very interesting. I hope for the best. thank you for posting and the info.
