Found this image today from my files. Trying to show more of an environmental portait of azaleas.
Wanted the pine tree as a reference point.

Canon EOS- 1D, EF 70- 200 mm. f/4.0 zoom. Used my Bogen tripod. Natural light with loads of sun.

Charlie, the tree looks a bit crooked to me...did you try a CCW rotation? I'm also wondering if the shadows could be lifted at all between the clumps of azaleas. I do like the image overall - it's so nice to see them in their natural habitat!

Jules,

Thanks for the critique. I tried to bring up the shadows with PS S/H tool. This is the best I could do.
Don't remember how the tree looked. Could certainly rotate the image CCW. Here's a repost. Let me know what you think...

I do like it better now that the shadows are more opened up. Next time you might try a little fill flash and see if that brings those deep shadows up in camera. I don't use a lot of flash but I've learned to try it when I've got really bright sun throwing deep shadows - you can always throw the images away if it overexposes the main subject!

Jules,

I agree with you on fill flash. Use it in the sun just didn't this time.
Some time all you need is a kiss of light.
