My good friend Cope (José A. Pérez) was showing me some of the work he made last year. He is impressive when it comes to draw and paint! just have a look at the details on each and every feather! He allowed me to share some of his work in here. For those not familiar with this stunning bird, I will say that this is a male Resplendent Quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno) which is a very common bird in the Talamanca mountain range here in Costa Rica.

The best of all is that he has never taken any art course, he is certainly gifted.;)

Just lovely - brings back wonderful memories of seeing this magical bird at Savegre in Costa Rica with Doug, Greg and co!
What a wonderful artist your friend is...

That is a true gift! Wow! The detail in the bird is absolutely stunning. Maybe he should try to sell some to the Bird Guide publishers??? That is really awesome!

Looks great, I agree, he should get together with publishers of Bird ID books.

It is true Daniel but we have to one to contact up there in the States and the Costa Rican field guides were made by some other artists like Dana Gardner and Robert Dean.:(

Quite loverly but I am often puzzled by artists who choose to clip the tails or do other similar stuff....

Thanks JC. IAC, I have seen lots of painting where the artists cut birds on the frame edge, merge two subjects, etc. All the stuff that we strive to avoid doing <smile>

Probably because there are no critique forums for bird painters. :)
