Composition works for me Jim but I would crop just a bit on the top and at the right of the frame (personal taste, of course). Eye contact, head turn, pose and isolation from the BG are very good. Blacks needs to be opened a bit and I think that the image is a bit on the cold side of the spectrum. I added aA round of noise reduction to the Bg, a touch of USM in the bird, selective levels adjustment in the blacks and a touch of warm to the color.

I like the angle, sharpness and pose and agree on lightening the eye some more and would remove the whitewash on the perch.

A very nice shot Jim, and Juan's repost has made it even nicer.

We have Carolina Dees here, but they are equally difficult to expose I think.

good work both,

Kenn

Kudos to Juan who created an excellent image from a good one. My favorite parts of the image are the head angle and the soft BKGR.
