Love the detail and color in the image. If it were mine, I might tone down the lower rc or even clone out the bright spots. I think it would improve the image.

Interesting subject with a nice background. I agree toning down the highlights would improve the image. Was the beetle moving? Wondering if I am seeing some motion blur of the subject.

I think I'm seeing what Alan's seeing...might be movement by the beetle or by camera shake. Were you on a tripod or handholding? At 1/80th, handheld might explain the slight shake.

I'm also seeing a bit of posterization in the BG and agree about toning or cloning that LRC. You did a nice job on composition - don't forget to try the "in your face" angle each time if it is possible - then you can choose between what makes for a stronger image - the eye contact or the markings on the insect. ;)

Hi Peter, Unfortunately the image is suffering from camera shake I tried pulling it into PS but sharpening it only made it more obvious. At that magnification and SS you really need a tripod even with the built in IS of the A700.
