Went out to Anhinga Trail this morning and vulture were active and cooperative :) Had no trouble getting within minimum focusing distance !!! This is one lens some say it is not sharp ... interesting!! One of my favorites .. almost out of camera, minimal processing.

I love it - it has some real character. I like being able to impute thoughts or attitudes to birds, and it's easy to attribute all sorts to this fellow.

I use my 100-400 a lot - it's my only long lens - and I seldom, but sometimes, get the sharpness I would like. Not sure yet if it's aperture, camera steadiness, focal length or some thing else,but you've certainly got it here.

Hi Casper I did some flight today with that lens and a converter :) Don't mind shooting wide open but will stop down one if I get the chance (not often) ... at the long end if you are using a 1.6X camera the effective focal length is 640 .. has to be steady !!!

... btw when that lens was introduced there were some sharpness problems, I remember some that were soft. For the past few years quality has been good and consistent. If you are having problems check the lens with a target. Shoot a newspaper on a tripod under ideal conditions, easy to see results which will give you confidence !!!

Great portrait image, the bg is the perfect opposition to our stereotypic view of these birds. Obviously no problem with sharpness here.

Another winner Mr. Forns. It's not the lens, it's who's behind the camera.
I went to Anhinga late this afternoon, I'm posting something in a few. By the way, The camera that's mounted on top of the Gazebo in the back captures you and Fabs.
Go to www.nps.gov/ever
Then go to Photos and Multimedia, webcams, then images from Anhinga, you guys show up around 8:30am in the time frame.
