I can't imagine timing any better than this, Brian!
The morsel is just perfectly placed.
While the light situation seems to have been somewhat challenging, I don't believe it significantly detracts from the impact of the 'action' photo.
Congrats on capturing such a fantastic moment !

Thanks. Yes, the light was a problem. I had three days of overcast and this was one of the very few moments of sun...mid day unfortunately.

Crawfish Jumbo. As most here know, I am a fan of some shadow. I think it can give an image character. Great action/behavior image. I like it.

Good shot, good timing. If you were that close I think you could have increased the DOF and gotten the shoulder in focus. Increasing the ISO to 400 or 500, for example, would have done the trick and maintained the shutter speed at an appropriate 1/2500 sec.
I do have a question. When was this image taken? Last time I was at Anahuac, 4 or five months ago, it was still in terrible shape from Hurricane Ike. It seems like all the debris from Galveston came up Trinity Bay and dumped on Anahuac NWR! Terrible.

Thanks William. Yes, I had plenty of light to increase the DOF. I went from f2.8 to f5.0, but could have went higher as you mention with a bit more ISO. I might have even been able to give up a bit of the 1/2500th and still stopped motion.

This shot was from last week 12/2. Galveston was a mess, but I saw ABSOLUTELY NO trash or debris at Anahuac. I'm surprised to even hear your comment. Don't know if they did a big cleanup or if the material has moved on, sunk, or ?? And I covered all the roadways at Anahuac. Interesting. My first time in Texas. Anahuac and the lower Rio Grande were awesome. Just wished I had more good light days.
