Thought I'd throw one in that most people probably haven't seen. This is the Sandia Mountain (New Mexico) subspecies of the Abert's Squirrel. BG is pine needles and red New Mexico dirt. The ones here in Colorado are completely black, lacking the silver/white tail and the reddish brown patches on the back and ears.

Great job Steve. I love the focus of the squirrels eyes on you. I have always wanted to photograph one of these little guys. I kept hoping I would see one when i was in the Southwest last summer but for some reason i never did. They have the coolest ears.

Keep up the excellent work,

god bless,

chris

lovely squirrel and love the DOF and complementing colours. Squirrel week is turning out to be very informative...

I'm with Morkel - I've learned a heck of a lot about squirrels here and I'm glad I got to see this little gem with the "crazy ears." As usual, Steve, a well-composed shot with great light and color.

Another fine one Steve. Getting low worked well here, nice OOF BG, well placed in the frame and sharp as a tack.

Steve, I like the low angle, and interesting looking ears. Overall, good sharp detail, and well captured.

Nice low angle and great details in the squirrel. Like the reddish hues in the background.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Chris,
If you're ever in Albuquerque, head up to the east side of Sandia Peak and stop at one of the picnic areas on the way up. You'll see plenty.
