What the big tail is for....

Not for the image, just for info and illustration- this is how the southern ground squirrel uses its tail as a sun shade. This is an old scanned film image from 2002, taken in Khutse GR in central Botswana. It was midday and very hot and bright. I was using either a Canon EOS 350 (Rebel XT) with Sigma 150-500 or EOS 1V and 100-400 F5.6 then, probably with Fuji Sensia 100.
