My friend took this of me trying to make this Water Moccasin pose. Stubborn little things. This one was about 4' long. Don't worry, I would NEVER put my Nikon in this kind of jeopardy. That's was my old Canon 20D and 100-400. I think that big white lens scared him. :D

The Rattlesnakes are the ones you gotta watch out for - they don't bluff. This little guy just wanted to get in the water and didn't have time for my non-sense. He showed me his big white mouth. :)

Com'on Gus, I had a big white 14" stick. As long as he doesn't coil he doesn't have much reach but Mocs will charge you if they are angry enough. I let him him go by before he got really upset. I was on a bit of a slope so I had to be a little careful with my footing.

I don't think the 100-400 focuses that closely! While rattlers of any kind are usually docile, playing with them like this can be dangerous.

Ed, I just got a new 24-70 and it's black. Now that would be tricky. :p

I saw a guy in Utah with his camera on a home made extension with a remote so he could get the snake up close without getting bit, but he could not find a rattler to try it on.

I have been kicking around in Arkansas for a while. Get out with the Fish & Game guys time to time. I guess you get use to messing with um after a while but I am always careful and fully respective. I saw a guy that got bit once. His hand got really ugly and never completly healed. I am always very careful.

To quote a famous legend "We are currently exploring the vastness of this great World doing it the "naturist" way!" I do, after all, live in the Natural State. ;)

I don't quite go that far. It gives the snakes too many things to hang on to. :o
