For the past week I have been following a group of non-breeding and immature adult diving for fish in one of the salt ponds in local Baylands. Finally they seem to get used to me and get fairly close for some nice close-up images. Here is one just as it was getting ready to take flight for the next dive. The settings were -

40D, Sigma 50-500mm @ 500mm hand held
1/1000 sec, f/8 Exp comp: -1/3 ISO: 400

Applied adjustment layers for levels, saturation, selective color and finally usm. Not sure if the water droplets on the wing are distracting... your c&c will be appreciated.

I like the light and sharpness and am wondering if a lower angle would have been possible.

Colors, exposure and sharpness look fine.

A lower angle would have helped a lot with this image, if it were possible to get lower...I do realize that at times it's not.

More of a side angle would have made this a stonger image IMHO.
