These guys look so similar to Sooty Shearwaters that I can't be 100% sure of this ID. But a local expert on seabirds told me this is indeed a Short-tailed.

Hope you like it!

Glenn, Beautiful pose and I love the water reflected in the wings. I like how the wing is almost touching the water. Very nice pose and details.

Great work as usual Glenn! Pelagic BIF photography is tough but fun, this is very nice, perfect light angle! I photographed what the "expert" standing next to me said was a Short-tail on a pelagic out of Monterey, CA a couple months ago and I couldn't see the difference from the Sootys! I guess part of the ID is in the flight behavior, flap rate, speed, etc?

Awesome photo Glenn. Love the relative stillness of the water. Pelagics out here (Atlantic Ocean) are typically so choppy that it can really distract from the bird. I would expect a Sooty to have might brighter underwing color; apparently there is some overlap though.

Looks pretty good for a short-tailed to me. I usually have the opposite problem, picking out the sooty in the tens of thousands of short-taileds.
