This family of trumpeter swans was swimming towards me with a narrow beam of sun filtering through the trees behind them. It was perhaps 9:30 AM, so there was some general illumination, but the sun hadn't cleared the tree line yet, and just a few areas were well lit. I lined myself up with that beam of light, and waited for them to swim towards me. Fortunately, they did.

Post: curves sharpen, cropped to about 60% of original image for comp.

Advice always appreciated.

Cheers

Wow, the sun rises at 9:30! That makes getting up easy! It rises at 7:00 here.

Nice low angle, symmetry, and exposure. I might crop some off the sides for more of a vertical look.

Well done!

Love the colors, the light, and the neatly arranged family not to mention the sharpness. Way to go. Is this at the feeding lady's pond???

I really like the symmetry here too, and agree about maybe cropping some to make it more vertical.

Aidan:

The sunrise is around 7:30, but the area is surrounded by hills with trees, so the light doesn't reach the surface of the lake until quite late in the morning, this time of year.

Artie:

This was taken at the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary in Michigan. I am fortunate that it is five minutes from my house.

There are quite a few pictures posted on BPN from there, including a couple of mine. :)

Beautiful shot Randy, love the BG and comp, the swans are lined up perfectly for this shot, might up the contrast a bit.

Beautiful image Randy, That reflection from the willow tree is excellent, I'm glad that tree does not loose it's color like the rest do. Now for another sunny day here in west Michigan and we can shoot again :), Ron

Beautiful image Randy. Did you try a little more contrast in the BG? it might look better....just a thought.
