The 7D and The Sandhill Crane Trio

My photography group, MPEG had a GroupShoot at the NW Indiana Sandhill Cranes site this past weekend. With over 10,000 cranes to pose for us, these three presented a nice photo op just after sunrise.

Canon 7D, RAW, PP in LR, 500f4 + 1.4X, 700mm at f5.6, + 2/3 EV, ISO 800, Evaluative, Center point AF with expansion.

Great eye contact with all three birds, and nice that they're all in focus. It's strange seeing Sandhills in a non-Bosque setting.

Hey Mark, great job on getting all 3 of those cranes in one frame. It's not easy to get three in the frame and have all of them sharp enough. If the image were rotated so that the lines in the top of the photo were more horizontal I think that would make the image even better. As is, there is not enough room in the picture to do this and crop it. If however this image has been cropped from the original you may have enough room for rotating the image and then cropping. Otherwise you would have to do some cloning to fill in the white areas at the corners after rotating and cropping.

Awesome trio--well done to get them sharp. Fantastic light. I also would hope for a rotation if you have room to do it--at least to see what it looks like.

Rodney: Since you were there as well and know the shooting conditions, I shot these birds from the observation deck (looking down on them to the left) as they were flying north to south along that trench.... I tried a rotation but it cuts off part of the left wing on the back bird.

I am happy with the outcome nonetheless.
