Taken at a local birding spot in Pretoria. The males bill consists of this knob, different to the female which I have posted previously.http://www.birdphotographers.net/forums/showthread.php?t=34020 I could have maybe had a better HA.

Good exposure control, light and calm water. I'm not even sure I have seen images of this species before. Do you have images in this series with the duck swimming toward you?

Axel, thanks. I will have a look as this was actually from one of my older files - taken in April. I do have them on disc and will see what is there in the way of a headon image. Will mail you an image. Cheers.

HA not a nit. Well exposed with good detail & colours. Like the smooth surface of the water. Well done!

Lovely water and iridescence, Stuart. Really shows the typical bill profile nicely.

Nice reflection bro. Wonder about the light though, seems just a little strong. Awesome duck though, reminds me of our Musk Duck, though that's black. Not particularly fussed about the HA this instance, the blue water is superb!

IOC says the Comb Duck (Sarkidiornis sylvicola) is the one in South America and the Knob-billed Duck (Sarkidiornis melanotos) is the one in the old world.
