There were quite a few coyotes on the prowl at the Bosque during my visit last week. Some keep their distance but others will walk right past you. This image was taken at a distance, but the coyote proceeded to cross our path about 15 feet in front of us.

The image was taken with the 800 f/5.6, which I have on loan from Canon. A very nice lens to be sure! If only it cost about $3,000 less...oh well! The IS works quite well; this was shot at 1/400 hand held.

Beautiful light, BG and concentration pose. The image looks a bit soft to me, especially the fur. Hand holding at eye level is not as easy as when you point up. A tripod would have made this one much better at 1/400 of a second.

Doug, I love the colors and comp and handsome subject. Agree with Fabs on softness in the coat, but the eyes look sharper. Maybe some selective sharpening. Amazing IQ for the focal length and handheld @ 1/400.

Great to see you posting in wildlife Doug. I like the angled pose, and the head is definately sharper than the body. Lovely complimentary colours in the BG, and good job with the high ISO. Hand holding an 800mm - thats no mean feat. Well done.

Super shot Doug. Tough combo hand holding a 800 with 18mp. (Fabs has a point, :)). Still carried it well. Nicely done.

The softness of the fur goes well with the creamy BG. Face and eyes appear sharp.
