I posted the female of this species a while ago (http://www.birdphotographers.net/forums/showthread.php?t=47822). Taken in early morning light in the Kalahari.

This is the loud-mouthed male with its gorgeous plumage.

Hi Morkel

Fine exposure for one difficult bird, good shadow detail and whites look good !!

About all I can suggest is if you could have moved a little to to your left to avoid the more prominent bg weeds, do like it a lot as presented and You came up with one fine image !!!

He is gorgeous for sure :)
Agree on Al's comment about your placing, but it may not have been possible.
Very nice light and EXP.
TFS!

thanks for the kind comments Harshad Bhai, Fabs, Ofer and Alfred. He only gave me 3 seconds of this pose and then disappeared into the long grass...taken from vehicle with beanbag over window.

Great HA mate, and I like the detail and colours. Very skittish characters for sure.

Lovely shot, Morkel, like the overall sharpness and clean forgeround. I happened to look at my shots of this bird over the weekend, most of them are obscured by long grass. Did you manage to get a BIF of these guys? I tried many times, not too successful! They must be one of the noisiest birds, shouting all the time when flying.
