I photographed this juvenile bird at Conowingo and liked the pinkish clouds in this one.

The pink clouds are a nice touch. I like the sharpness and underwing detail. I might tone down the whites a little.

Axel, Lovely light and I agree the pinkish clouds add a nice touch. Great job exposing the blacks/whites, plenty of detail. Love his serious look. HA could of been a bit more towards you but still not the worst since you get the sense hes concentrating on something. Congrats

Hey Axel,
Details appear to be all there....but I can see what Doug is talking about....definitely due to the juvi's color the lighter area does draw the eye a touch....but the whites look fine on my monitor so it isn't an issue for me but may be worth exploring. BG works and while I like the clouds....not sold on the pink but that is definitely a personal call. The head seperation and eye are spot on.
I may have to do a road trip to Conowingo....but the schedule is jamming up!

Axel:

Techs as mentioned. I am OK with the whites, clouds add some depth to the sky.

Would you hazard a guess on how old this one is? I am trying to learn to age them by their feather pattern.

Thanks, Randy! I looked at some images in "Raptors" by Brian K. Wheeler and this seems to be a second-year subadult but I'm not an expert.

Hmmm.....big difference around the head area between Juv and adult. Getting to know your species. Lovely flight angle, and the whites look good to me too. The pinks work for me. Well captured Axel.

Lovely species. Love the spread wings and eye contact. Agree about the sky giving a sense of DOF.

plenty of details in the darks and lights... the whites look fine to me too... and yes, the pink clouds add a nice touch to the sky... this is one of those times i actually liked this HA than if he were looking at you... gives sense of purpose to his flight... :)

-Cheers,
Rohan

The whites look spot-on here. Love the pose and the underwing detail; you handled the uneven lighting quite well.
