Spent a few days working on some pictures from 2008. Decided to post something different.

This photo was taken on Christmas Day last year at Green Cay. This Pie-billed Grebe was fishing at sunset and had just come up for air.

Canon 40D, Canon 400 DO & 1.4 @ 560mm
F5.6, 1/800sec, ISO 400, manual mode

C & C always welcomed and appreciated,

I do like the different shades of green here but the side lighting doesn't work for me as it leaves one eye almost lost in shadow. Also, looks like focus may be in back of the bird with the head left soft.

I like the sidelight, setting and wide crop and might crop a little bit off the bottom.

Hi Marina,
I like the water at Green Cay....it does make a nice BG. I'm Ok with the sidelight but would go with a crop off the bottom as Axel recommended...leaving the lighter bottom band?.....seems to make a nice pattern too! It does look close on the focus....but for me it does appear in...just maybe a bit of tweaking.

I like the originallity of what you tried to do here Marina. The placement of the bird in the shot is nice and I like some of the others like the angle of the light. Why do they call Green Cay? (Just kidding :D)
