This is an antelope found exclusively in India. Adult males are dark brown to black with white undersides. These elegant antelopes prefer arid grassland and semi-desert areas. They are diminishing in numbers due to poaching and habitat loss.
Species: Blackbuck (Antilope cervicapra)
Location: Rollapadu, Andhra Pradesh, India
Date: Nov 2007
Equip: Canon 1D Mlll, Canon 500 f4 with 1.4 TC
Specs: ISO 400, f 5.6 1/4000s, beanbag on vehicle

Thank you for your comments/critiques.

You've handled the exp well considering the harsh lighting, nice comp and pleasing BG.

This is a handsome looking antelope. Nice timing on the gait. I also like the alternating layers of dirt/vegetation.

Hi Ajit: I agree with the others that this is a well-timed shot of the antelope as it is loping along. You did a really nice job with the whites on this shot as well. Thank you.

A first for me, there are so many interesting Antelopes worldwide.
Capturing the movement has added considerably to the image, which must have been very difficult to expose.

The ground looks almost cultivated?

Ajit,

Very nice image of Black buck in wild.

It seems Texas has more black buck population than India. Not surprising considering number of hunting ranches in Texas.

Lovely striding posture, well exposed and sharp. Interesting pair of horns on him. Well captured.

I like the running pose. A fine male.

Once these black bucks were roaming all over the countryside and were the favourite prey of Cheetah. Unfortunately, loss of their habitat - the plains - to cultivation is one of the primary reasons for their decline in numbers.

Cheers,
Sabyasachi

Nice pose and exposure given the rather bright light. Well placed in the frame. The eye could use a touch of work to appear sharper and clearer.

lovely pose, exposure and techs as mentioned. I've seen pics before and would like to see these and India's other fabulous wildlife for myself one day...
