This is one of my favorite hummingbirds species, this lives in highlands, is endemic to Costa Rica and western Panama. This image was made at 8,900 feet above the sea level aprox. It was cold for any average Costa Rican!:D

Canon 35-350@350

Natural light

May be this image looks too dark for some of you folks, may be I just like saturated colors, in any case, this is like the bird looks in real life.
Comments and suggestion are most welcome.

Hello Glenn.

I found this guy even higher than Savegre. I found it at kilometro 70, Cerro de la Muerte.

Beautiful species, good head angle and BG. I could also see this as a vertical crop and might selectively sharpen eye and bill some more.

What a beautiful bird!
I agree with Axel about the vertical crop.
BG and colors are wonderful.

I agree...what a beautiful bird. I might crop a little off the right side...but not a lot.

Hi Juan Carlos,
Brings back happy memories of my trip to Costa Rica!! I like the presentation as it is - he needs a space to look into!
Best,

Very beautiful Juan Carlos! Awesome capture of the sharpness and colors, I know that they are not always glowing like this! On my recent CR trip, we saw and photographed this species at a coffee shop somewhere?

JC, amazing colours, and I can see this as a vertical too. You were pretty high altitude wise.

Juan Carlos, very nice portrait of this hummer. The colors look right on to me.

Glenn, you can see this bird at about three different places now, one of which Juan Carlos mentioned. Eddie Serrano's Mirador de Quetzales is the place with the best feeders for doing photography IMO. I actually am planning a trip up there to try to work this species with my multi-flash setup in the next couple of weeks.

Cheers,
