This an image of early morning on Western Ghats of Southern India. Though i was born and brought in this region, i never took the trouble to climb the hills and watch the nature unfold in the morning That was until this trip. It turned out to be a magical experience. Appreciate your views and comments.

Nikon D700, 24-70mm @ 66mm, 1/100s, f/16, ISO 200, hand held, full frame
Levels, Curves, channel mixer to B&W conversion, retained the low key effect

Hi Ramesh, I like your conversion along with the fog and the subtle layers of mountains. IMO there is not enough interest in the sky to warrant keeping all of it. I would suggest cropping from the top creating a pano.

Cropping from the top would loose the sun. I like the feeling of the sun shinning on the hills.

I would also like to see the color version of the scene.

Hi Ramesh,
I would agree with Douglas if we could actually have it in the frame.....as it appears you got a nice burst out of it......as it is so far away and above the scene.....I too would prefer a pano of this and just the brighter area of the sky conveys the sense of the sun w/o all the negative space.
Very nice use of the subtle layers here also...for me, that is enough to caryy the composition in a pano form.
PS Isn't it interesting how we often ignore the areas closest to us.....and it takes leaving for us to reconnect with them?!

I agree that this can be cropped into more of a pano. If you have one with the sun in it, that would be the other preferred composition. Good use of the atmospheric affects to create layers in the image heightening the feeling of depth.

Agree with others. I was wondering what about this image made you convert it to b&W?? I would love to see the color version...

Hi Ramesh I like the layers of this image as it gives it a 3d feel

Thanks everyone for your views. I tried the pano crop, but losing the subtle sun burst at the top left took away the impact of the image. And hence left it as is.

Douglas and Nick, here is the color image. I felt the b&w conversion brought out the soft tonal range of the image better than the color one. Let me know what you think.

Thanks, Ramesh.
I think I prefer the color version, but I like both of them. They convey a totally different feeling. The magenta tint to the haze in the background really makes the color version, to my eye. Again, thanks for posting both.

IMHO you have two gorgeous images here. That is a beautiful area and you have captured it stunningly in color and B&W. I would add my vote to a crop.

Thanks, Douglas and Bill for the affirmation.
