The Mississippi Delta can be pretty cold during January this bluebird was waiting for the sun to get up. It didn’t care about me as long as I was standing in the water as soon as I was on land it took off.<o></o>

Colours and comp are great. Something about the left hand side of the perch looks a bit off.
Would love to see this as a horizontal if it was originally taken like that.

I like the interesting COMP. The bird's head is turned away just tad too much. The darker areas in the BKGR by the bird's head, especially the blue area behind the bill are distracting. Lastly, the blues, especially in the wing, are a bit over-saturated.

What were you doing in MS???

cant comment on colors as I have never seen this , but what a cute bird , great critiques by Arthur here
I think landscape crop will look better

The vertical comp works ok for me, and I like the curved perch. The overall exposure looks good, as does the reflection. I detect a slight bit of oversharpening around the bottom of the eye.

Thank You all for your comments I appreciate them very much.

@ Paul and Harshad the picture is the original framing, I wanted to include the mirror image and the bird give me one shot … then it turned around and never looked in my direction again for the next hour. As the water was pretty cold I got out of the water after one hour which made this little fellow take off … but I agree a horizontal would have been my second shot.

@ Arthur I was part of research team (http://nationalzoo.si.edu/ConservationAndScience/MigratoryBirds/Research/Rusty_Blackbird/twg.cfm) conducting a study on the wintering-ecology of the Rusty Blackbird. I learned to love Mississippi it is not easiest place to get pictures and most of the birds are not habituated to humans … but patience is my best long-lens. I am not sure what the blue color in the water actually is … the bird is lit-up by two 550EX and the place was in full shadow … I guess the blue-color is the result that the flash didn’t illuminate this spots … or maybe it is because I took the picture not too far away of the birth-places of many famous Blues-Musicians .

If this was the only shot you managed of this little beauty ,You certainly managed to capture a far from usual image of it and should go home very happy .I do find it just a tad over saturated around the tail feathers

Thanks for the interesting story Geraldo. Reducing the blue saturation would be easy. Let me know if you need to know how to do it.
