This magnificent Oryx bull posed nicely for me amidst the backdrop of the red Kalahari dunes.

Impressive animal. My first thought was to make it lighter, so Peter's repost looks good to me.

Morkel,

Thank you for describing this as an Oryx!

In my view this is one of the most difficult animals to get a good image of and you have a pretty good one here. Outside of the size of the horns the major problem is the high contrast in the face and the rarity of a good eye.

Superb pose Morkel. As Ken said, not many shots like this of these. Done well. (most might be inclined to think Gemsbok too). Some good suggestions but pretty cool pose and great use of habitat. Lovely shot. Very nicely done and would love to have it. The dust kicked up a nice touch.

Good job on the exposure, and like the pose, as if he's about to turn. Comp wise, I would like to see some more sky. Still, a great capture mate.

thanks for the kind feedback everyone! :)

Peter - thanks for the repost. the changes are subtle but I like what you did.

Ken, Dave - who outside Southern Africa would know the name 'Gemsbok' if I posted it here?? ;)
and yeah I did find them difficult to compose as far as portraits go...

Excellent pose and framing, like seeing the animal as positioned.

Repost is subtle but significant improvement, does enhance the image !!!

Good going Morkel, the horns going diagonal really makes the photo
