Nice bull elk in velvet this past spring in Yellowstone.
D200, Tamron 300 f2.8@f4.0, 1/125, spot metering.
Difficult filtered light at edge of river.
Thanks for looking and comments always helpful and appreciated.

I like the overall look of the image, exposure looks good. Looks a little soft on my monitor. Personal prefence wold be a bit more room on the bottom and a tad less on top.

Todd,

Agree with Bill on the crop. The rim lighting is nice on the animal but I find it distracting in the BG which looks electrified. I would try desaturating the BG some.

I think this guy's size worked against him in this head-lowered pose. The head gets lost in the body and the sheer size and spread of the rack makes me think something is missing in between them. I also like the logs and flowers in front but agree that the greens look a bit to "electric".

Less that ideal lighting but I think you pulled it off well. The BG as mentioned looks a bit hot.. I think shooting from a lower angle would give you a better image all around. I almost always try to photograph wildlife from below their eye level. And as mentioned a little more room all around would be nice...
