Glad to see that you are posting, Ginny. The wing span you captured on the bird is beautiful, as is the intense look in its eye. I see a lot of issues with the photo though and for the experts to critique, including the specs is most useful. There is a lot of noise (maybe a large crop?), but the biggest problem for me is it appears very oversaturated. Minor things are some dust spots in upper right corner that could be easily cloned out. And as I have learned with flight shots, giving the bird more room to fly into is always a good thing.

thanks, Connie. I will repost the same image tomorrow when I am able to post again within the time restraints. It will not be so tightly cropped. Still trying to learn this system.

Hi Ginny, You timing was good and you almost got the whole bird into the frame. There are huge image quality problems most having to do with noise and over-saturation. How large a crop is this?

Hi Ginny - also include the full details on your shooting info and Post processing - there is a lot going on here and would like to try and help. Seems to be a lot of sharpening Halo's and a lot of noise.

You can repost the same image in this thread!!

This photo has not been edited in any way as compared to the previously filed image.
I have no additional info on the image taken with a Canon Rebel Xti

Thanks Bill and Hi Ginny,

The last image that you posted is much better than the original post. :)

Lesson one is to work in Aperture priority at the wide open aperture to give you the fastest possible shutter speed. You would have been able to drop down here to ISO 400; that would have resulted in less noise. Don't give up; there is tons to learn and this is the place to do it.

Hi Ginny,
Just some quick fixes. It looks like you are shooting jpegs. Just did a quick NR and desaturation. Tried to colour balance a bit better. Think I might be seeing a few dust spots on your sensor too.

I don't have Elements, so rather than guess, I will let someone that knows for sure how to get to it.

Ginny, In PS Elements 7.0, you can get the basic shooting data in the File menu: go to File/File Info and click on Camera Data 1. I think it's the same in 5.0. I second (or third) the comments about BPN - this is THE place to learn a phenomenal amount about everything having to to with avian photography.
