This is my first photo submission to BPN. I took this shot of a brown pelican in Monterey last week; what a great place to photograph birds. This looks like a quality forum, and I look forward to actively participating in it!

Hi Doug,

I'm glad to see you posting here. Welcome to BPN!

I like the pose and beautiful blue water bg. The highlights seem a bit overexposed and there appears to be some loss of detail in the white and bright yellow areas. I like the comp, but I think it would benefit from a little more room on the left.

Very nice pose and BG, Doug. I agree with Jim's suggestions, the pelican is a little bit tight in the frame.

Welcome Doug. As already mentioned beautiful pose with that very coquette look and the composition is lovely too but would like too see more room on the left. I agree with Jim's comments on the whites and highlights. Sounds like you had a wonderful time in Monterey and will look forward to future posts.

Welcome aboard Doug! Beautiful pose, light looks a little harsh and as a result the whites are a little hot. Maybe try to tone the whites down in the RAW file if possible?

Hi Doug and welcome!

The composition works very well for me but as other said the exposure looks a little hot. Perhaps -1/3 would of help.

Looking forward for more of your work!
