View Full Version : Words are Keys

My wife called me at work today. She had tackled the task of cleaning our basement (and going through boxes paperwork and junk from my college years and before). She called to let me know that she found a bunch of old poems I'd written years ago (I'd forgotten that I wrote poetry back then, it was a fleeting phase) Anyway, I thought I'd share this one with you.

Words are keys
that can open a heart,
and bring together those
who seemed worlds apart.
Words are the weapons
used every day,
to lash out when something
does not go our way.
Words are the tool
that allow you to talk
to yourself when you go
on your evening walk.
Words can be changed,
and the meanings remain
or the meanings can change
while the words stay the same.
Words will affect
your life every day
Even when you feel
you have nothing to say
Words are the backbone
of this silly verse,
as you continue to read
it only gets worse. :)

(I was asked to add a photo. Nothing I have seems to fit this poem, and I don't have much experience with photoshop so I put up a picture of my 8 month old son, someone who has not yet learned the power of words. I'm sure Denise could create a wonderfully creative image that would be applicable to this poem.)

Eric, I love it! Very nicely written and the touch of humor is perfect. I'd love to see you pair this w/ an image.

I agree with Denise - find us an image to put this with...it's too good!

Eric, I think your son is adorable and I think you picked a great image. To me he represents a fresh start.

I'm glad you like the poem. I could barely even remember writing it. I wasn't sure if the photo went with the poem, but thought at the very least I'd share it. (I like it, but then again I'm a little biased)

Your son is ADORABLE, Eric! Oh my gosh, I could kiss his little face right off!

Thank you Julie. We feel truly blessed to have him in our lives. Pictures of him smiling like this are a dime a dozen. He spends more time laughing and smiling than anything else. Being a father is so much more rewarding than I'd anticipated.
