A very hard bird to get right with its wheeling flight, change of background from sea to sky and the white on black plumage. This is my best effort from last week.

Exposure looks good Rob. Beautiful pose mate. Well done! :)

Stunning bird!

A tad more light on the face would have put this one over the top for me and perhaps a little selective eye work...but it is beautiful IMHO.

Nice shot, you managed to get detail in both whites and blacks, sharpness and pose is pretty good too. TFS

EXP, detail in the blacks and whites, crop, wing position, and d-o-f all wonderful. What was the situation?

Lovely pose, detail and BG, Rob. Looks like a dust bunny or part of a very OOF bird on the right edge near the bottom of the frame.

Thanks for the comments. Oof bird Tony, thankyou. We were out on a pelagic off the south east coast of South Australia. The shelf is about 40km offshore. Not too rough but unsteady enough to make tracking anything that wasn't flying in a predicatble manner quite entertaining.

cheers

I'm enjoying your tubenoses and hope you have more to share. Great job tracking and getting the exposure spot on. I'll have to go on a pelagic photo shot some time as I really love the look of these birds. Congrats

Very nice Rob. Great job of exposing this bird well. You are tempting this land lover to get his feet wet!!

Great banking angle Rob, and you nailed the exposure on the blacks and whites. Comp wise, I would maybe move him up in the frame. I like the hint of clouds in the BG. Well captured.

Hey, this is incredible. Knowing how hard to get them you have to be proud of this image.
Very well done. I might add a slight contrast as the blacks look to be noisy by the shadows adjustment (or less would make same result).
