I know very little about insects, and I don't try to pretend like I do :) Therefore, this is an image of a bug I found in the Everglades ;)

Tech Stuff
Camera: Nikon D200
Lens: Sigma 70-300 @ 300mm (little macro flippy thing switched on)
Manual Exposure, 1/200 @ f/6.3

Ahhh grasshopper - I believe what you have there is a Romalea microptera, or eastern lubber grasshopper. A very young grasshopper! Very nice capture, Blake! Nice contrast and use of dof on the leaf.

These guys are cool when they swarm in the mornings.

Good work with the razor thin DOF blake and as usual good work for 1/200 considering it was handheld!!!

Excellent work Blake.

I just got done telling Peter in his post I appreciate his details on his subjects. I got a laugh when you said, its a bug that's all I know.:)

Hi
You have placed the focus nicely in this shot, and certainly displayed an open look that has impact. I personally find the image very visually one sided though, and I wonder if perhaps a vertical composition would have brought more of a balance look? Still a cool image mind you
All the best
Matthew

Hey Blake, you may not know much about insects, but it looks like you have an idea on how to shoot them. Good framing, DOF, and color. Well done.

Hi Blake,

Love this shot!
Great choice of DOF and the insect really grabs my attention!
I feel cropping a bit of the top and left side would improve this even more!

Well done and thank you for posting!

Greetings,
