This yellow flower contrasted well against a dark background when captured early in the morning. The BG wasn't great and couldn't get close to the flower to fill frame either. To eliminate the BG, opened the lens, spot metered the flower and exposed. Appreciate your views and comments.

I agree -- the background works very well. There's enough of it to convey the fact that it is leaves, but not too much to where it overpowers the image. Very nice!

I think you handled the bg very well Ramesh. Lovely sharp detail in the flower as well.:)

Very nice sharpness and DOF on the flower, Ramesh and I like the overall mood of this image. I wonder if the flower itself could be a little brighter - without destroying the mood you've created? A minor point - I think the image would be even stronger if the tip of the leaf on the bottom edge wasn't clipped. Well done.

Hey Ramesh, I like the rich color of the flower, and I tend to like dark moody lighting so this works for me. I like the positioning of the flower and plant in the frame.

Very nicely handled, Ramesh. Usually I would like to see the flower larger in the frame, but the dark BG makes the flower stand out perfectly. I agree with Steve on maybe lightening the flower just a tad.

It's a very nice image, Ramesh - very dramatic and still nicely exposed. I do think it's a bit close to the middle, though, and wonder if you could cut a bit off the right side (maybe 1/2"?) to bring it more into the ROT's position? Either way, it's a really neat image.

Thanks, Julie for your views. I had tried cropping the RHS further: it cut even more leaves and hence left it where it is now.

ramesh
