1D2n, 600mm f4 is, 1/320s, f6.3, iso 400. Fill flash -2.33. Setting sun and light rain. Full frame with a sliver of added canvas to correct rotation.

I got lucky with this chick. He had left the family group and was moving slowly towards me. As I was preparing, he briefly adopted this pose. The lighting was awesome that evening. Comments and critique are very much appreciated.

Very cool light, great angle and sharpness. I would only remove the noise in the water and BG. The color noise is surprisingly strong at ISO 400.

I agree with you, and I don't know the reason. The noise isn't as obvious in the original tiff, or in print.
I presume it is a result of my conversion for web presentation?

I'm not sure, either. It almost looks as if you sharpened the entire image and not just the bird.

Great shot -- nice and low angle and I the catchlight -- which to me is hard to get on a headon

Ian...this is a very beautiful addition to your fantastic series. I loved the water in this one...if not for the ripples, it could have been mistaken for ice. Loved the tight crop. And its so so sharp. Keep 'em coming.

Hi Ian

I recognise this photo as one that was highly commended in the BWPA Competition. Many congratulations. Great light, angle and pose which all add up to a fine image. As mentioned the background is showing some noise.

Cheers

Thanks for all the lovely comments. I'm annoyed with myself for not correcting the background for presentation, so here's a repost after a bit of noise reduction. I'm still not entirely happy with it, but the original is fine - honest!
