This small dragonfly is an Autumn Meadowhawk (Sympetrum vicinum) (formerly known as Yellow-legged Meadowhawk). They often perch with their wings folded forward - sometimes obscuring their heads when viewed from the side. These are usually the latest dragonflies to be found in the fall - in my part of the country. 40D, Canon 180mm macro, 1/250, f/9, ISO 400, macro twin flash, hand held. It was a windy day so I used auto-focus to get some sharp images. I removed some flash-generated spectral highlights. Comments are welcome.

Really lovely image, Steve. I never would have guessed that you used flash or that you removed some of the evidence - both say a lot about your skill level! Beautiful reds (and with a Canon no doubt!) You're quickly becoming the dragonfly king around here!

Nicely done Steve. I really like how square you are to the dragon fly. Lovely colours and nice sharp details. Dave

Very nice image Steve plenty of detail and a sweet BG. Only suggestion would be some selective sharpening on the wings to enhance the veins.
